Agartala is the capital city of Tripura, a northeast Indian state. The huge, white Ujjayanta Palace, built in 1901 by Maharaja Radha Kishore Manikya, has Mughal-style gardens with fountains. It houses the Tripura Government Museum, where displays include 9th-century sculptures. Nearby, ornate columns and pointed domes mark the Hindu temple Jagannath Bari. North, Rabindra Kanan park has flowerbeds and a puppet house.

The Heritage Park, spread over twelve acre of land, is located at the centre of the city, on the northern side of Raj Bhawan on the Agartala-GBP Hospital road. This park was inaugurated on the 30th November 2012 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Tripura. Entrance to the park has an imposing gate constructed with depicting the rich tribal, nontribal mixed cultural heritage of Tripura, both tribal and non-tribal. The park has three parts, viz. (i) mini-Tripura located in about three acre of land at the entrance, (ii) central area being raised as natural forest, and (iii) a plain table land with medicinal plants, herbs and shrubs. There is a walking track of 1.1 kilometres running along the periphery of the park.
Unakoti Hill is one of the main attraction in Agartala. This is a stone carving pilgrimage place dedicated to Lord Shiva. Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary encompasses an area of 18.54 sq. km. The sanctuary has not less than 456 plant species. Many kinds of bamboo and a variety of grasses and medicinal plants also grow in the sanctuary. It is here that one can find nearly 4500 cubic meters per hectare of timber biomass. More than 150 species of residential birds, migratory birds, orchid garden, boating facilities, wild life, botanical garden, zoo, elephant joy-rides, rubber and coffee plantations beckon the tourists all through the year. The added visual incentive for animal-lovers is the famous spectacled monkey which is now a rare species. It is closed on Thursday.
