Imphal is the nearest Airport of Ukhrul. From the Imphal International Airport it is 85 kilometers away. Imphal is connected by air with Kolkata and New Delhi.
Nearest railway station is Dimapur and Manipur Road on the North East Frontier Railway (NEF) nearly 215 kilometers from Imphal. Another railway station is in Jiribam 225 kilometers from Imphal. Or travelers can travel up to Guwahati (nearest major rail head from Imphal) by bus or by air.
Ukhrul is well connected via roads with cities and other states. It is about 85 kms away from the state capital Imphal.
Ango Ching is a virgin forest cover yet unknown too many, it is a place to reckon. This place covers a forest area of 150 sq km. At the east side of Ango Ching is the Myanmar border while on the west the Sanalok (Chamu) river. The way to the forest cover is mostly inaccessible as it passes through difficult terrain. Since this place is yet unexplored, the natural beauty of the place is more or less intact. It is a heaven of flora and fauna. Elephants, sambars, tigers, barking deer, deer, wild bison, black bear, hook lock, leopard, horn bills, wild cat, peacock Tragopan, etc. are some of the animals found in the Ango Ching forest. It is also a bio-diversity hub and needs adequate conservation.
Kachouphung Lake is a natural lake close to Ukhrul, situated on the slopes of the Achuwa Magi Hills which is 7 km from Khayang Falls. The Kachouphung lake is spread over 9 acres and is roughly shaped forming the Indian map. During rainy season, the size of the lake usually increases. The Kachouphung Lake is bound by several hillocks on all sides and heightening the beauty of the place. The beauty of the lake attracts many tourist.
The Khayang Peak is the highest peak of Ukhrul district, the altitude is 3114 m above sea level. From The peak you will get a beautiful view of the entire region - the flowing hills, the winding streams, undulating valleys and the colourful hamlets. The view from the Khayang Peak is magical in simple words. Most of the tourist go to the peak by trekking, which is adventurous too. While trekking up the hill, you will witness the beautiful view all around.
Textile is very popular in whole Manipur. Earlier before the second world war the Manipuri women were unaware of woolen yarn and so the raw material they used was cotton yarn. Loin loom is a specialty of the Manipuri women and every household here has a loom where they weave wonderful products. Manipuri dresses are now become famous worldwide.
Pottery is a very common handicrafts in Manipur. Manipuri custom also accords pottery a prominent position during childbirth, where the placenta of a newborn infant is stored inside a chaphu (a small earthen pot). The chaphu symbolises purity and sanctity. Apart from this, pottery are used for a range of domestic purposes.
The phanek is a Manipuri sarong and is a common sight in and around the state worn by Manipuri women. Phaneks are mostly hand woven and are available in black colors or stripes in design. The casual wear phaneks come in block colors while the ones used for festive occasions are called mayek naibi and are often striped. Phaneks are usually paired with a shawl known as innaphi.
