    Spanish cuisine derives from the Roman, Jewish, and Andalusian traditions. Bread is traditionally served as an accompaniment to food, often with a little extra virgin olive oil for dipping. Commonly enjoyed fruits include apples, oranges, grapes, cherries, dates and figs. Cheese such as Manchego is eaten as a snack. Spain is also known for its wines, including the rioja, made in the northern province and sangria where wine is mixed with fruit and soda water.

    A croquette is a small bread crumbed fried food roll made of mashed potatoes, ground meat, shellfish, fish, cheese, vegetables etc. The croquette is usually shaped into a cylinder, disk, or oval shape, and then deep-fried. You can find a plate of Croquettes in almost any restaurant or bar in Spain.

    It is a typical Spanish dish consisting of egg omelette made with added potatoes and fried in vegetable oil. The best ones are made from slow-cooked potato in olive oil, which make a soft centre once egg is added to create an omelette cake. You will also find wedges of Spanish omelette squeezed between a bocadilla for a tasty sandwich snack.

    Sangria is a typical beverage of Spain. It normally consists of wine, chopped fruit, a sweetener, and a small amount of added brandy. Chopped fruit can include orange, lemon, lime, apple, peach, melon, berries, pineapple, grape, kiwifruit and mango. It creates a surprisingly tasty refresher.

    Fallas fiesta takes place in Valencia from 15th to the 19th of March every year. It is undoubtedly one of those ‘super-festivals’ attracting many foreign visitors as well as Spanish tourists from all over the country. The festivals include a night time parade and a procession of the old towns of Valencia.

  • Running with the Bulls

    The festival of San Fermin, or the Running of the Bulls takes place at 8am every morning from 7th to 14th July. The length of the run is 825 metres and the average time of the run from start to finish is about three minutes. The streets through the old town which make up the bull run are walled off so the bulls can’t escape. Each day six fighting bulls run the route as well as two herds of bullocks.

  • La Tomatina Festivals

    La Tomatina is a festival held on a Wednesday towards the end of August in the town of Bunol in the Valencia region of Spain. Participants come from all over the world to fight in a harmless battle where more than one hundred metric tons of over-ripe tomatoes are thrown in the streets. At around 11 a.m., the first event of the Tomatina begins. A ham is placed upon a cockaigne pole and the tomato fight can begin only when someone is able to climb to the top and bring it down. People struggle against each other, climbing atop one another, in order to be the one to pull down the ham. With this victory, the tomato-throwing begins.
