Engelberg at a Glance

Engelberg is a charming village located in Central Switzerland, just one hour away from Lucerne. It is located at the foot of Mount Titlis and draws tourists for its perfect mix of culture and sports. Engelberg is also visited for its famous Benedictine Monastery. From the 19th Century, Engelberg became internationally known as a resort and spa, but is today visited as much for skiing as for its clean air. With its combination of modern sports facilities and alpine location, Engelberg is a magnet for both summer and winter tourism.

Engelberg Station is located within the resort of Engelberg. It is served by two stations. Both stations are served by hourly Inter Regional trains from the city of Lucerne.

Mount Pilatus

Pilatus is one of the most beautiful and legendary places in Central Switzerland. On a clear day the mountain offers a panoramic view of 73 Alpine peaks. Pilatus is a popular excursion point, viewing platform and place of adventure. World’s steepest cog wheel railway runs here from Alpnachstad through the woods and fields. Gondola rail and a cableway on the north side unite Kriens with Pilatus Kulm.

Mount Rigi

Mount Rigi is a mountain in central Switzerland, bordering Lucerne, and a part of the Swiss Alps. It is also known as the "Queen of the Mountains”. Rigi offers stunning panoramic views and is famous for its beautiful sunrises. From the summit, you can see a marvelous 360-degree panorama of the Swiss Plateau with the Black Forest, the Vosges mountains, the Glarus Alps and the Bernese Alps.

Kapellbruck-Chapel Bridge

The Chapel Bridge in Lucerne is a 204 meter long bridge crossing the Reuss River located in the upper part of the Swiss city. The 140 feet tall Wasserturm or Water Tower, an octagonal tower made from brick, is adjacent to the bridge. The tower and the bridge are Lucerne's symbol and constitute the most photographed monument in the country.

Lowendenkmal-Lion Monument

The Lion Monument in Lucerne is a giant dying lion carved out of a wall of sandstone rock above a pond at the east end of the medieval town. Mark Twain described the Lion of Lucerne as the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world. It was designed as a memorial for the mercenary soldiers from central Switzerland who lost their lives while serving the French king Louis XVI during the French Revolution.

Lake Lucerne

The lake’s has a total area of 114 square kilometres and is the 4th largest lake in the country. Lake Lucerne’s shoreline have many stunning views, especially of Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus. The lake is a popular tourist destination, both for foreigners and native Swiss with numerous hotels, resorts, and other establishments lining the shores.

Mount Titlis

Mount Titlis is Central Switzerland’s loftiest peak which offers spectacular views of ice and snow. The revolving Rotair, an aerial cable car delivers awesome 360-degree panoramic views of the snow-covered valleys, glaciers, lakes, forests, and mountains in Switzerland while reaching the topof Mount Titlis from Engelberg. Swiss Museum of Transport

The Swiss Museum of Transport is the most diverse museum for transportation and communication in Europe. More than 3,000 items are exhibited in a space as large as 40,000 square meters. It also houses EURECA, a 4.5 tonne satellite among the few space objects put into space and returned safely.

Rhine Falls

This is Europe's largest waterfall which was forced into a new riverbed over 15,000 years ago. Over a breadth of 150 meters, several hundred cubic meters of water rush into the depths at the rate of 23 meters per second. By ship one can reach the Rhine Falls Basin and even the mighty rock in the midst of the waterfall.

Stanserhorn

It’s an open-top aerial cable car which takes you to the peak of Mt Stanserhorn. You can take in the spectacular views of the Swiss Alps. Half way you also spot marmots – as well as the fascinating "Rondorama" revolving summit restaurant.

Engelberg’s Show cheese factory

This is a very nice place to pick up some fresh cheese. They sell many Swiss cheeses, some difficult to get from other places, and most from around the village.
