The old walled city lies on the west bank of the River Foyle, which is spanned by two road bridges and one footbridge. Long an undiscovered gem, Derry stands today in the midst of a compelling transformation. It is a city emerging from a long and colourful history to showcase its brilliance to the world, like a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis of conflict. The historic city centre has a cozy feeling when you walk the ancient city walls surrounding it. Known as a centre for traditional Irish music Derry’s location close to the border with the Irish republic makes it an excellent base from which to explore all of the island of Ireland.
