Tower of London, is a historic castle located on the north bank of the River Thames in central London. The Tower has served variously as an armoury, a treasury, a menagerie, the home of the Royal Mint, a public records office, and the home of the Crown Jewels of England. These days the royal family do not use the Tower of London as a residence, although they still keep the magnificent Crown Jewels here.
The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. The entire structure is 135 metres tall and has 32 sealed 'pod' capsules, fitting a total of 800 people, revolving on a huge Ferris wheel. One go-around takes half an hour with the wheel rotating at only twice the speed of a tortoise sprinting, so you can step on and off without the wheel needing to stop. Each capsule is also fully air-conditioned to keep its visitors completely comfortable no matter what the temperature outside. You can see the Gothic houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, The Tate Museum, Tower Bridge from the wheel.
Buckingham Palace has been the Queen's official residence since 1837. Most of the year Buckingham Palace is closed to the public. However during the summer months, when the Queen heads on holiday to Balmoral Castle in Scotland, part of the palace is open to the public. London's Hyde Park is one of the greatest city parks in the world. Covering 142 hectares and with over 4,000 trees, a large lake, a meadow and ornamental flower gardens. Hyde Park covers 350 acres and is home to a number of famous landmarks including the Serpentine Lake and Speakerâs Corner. The park has become a traditional location for mass demonstrations.
The world famous Stonehenge is situated around 90 miles west of Central London. Stonehenge is a massive circle of standing stones and earthworks in the middle of a green field in Wiltshire. It is in the middle of the most dense complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in England, including several hundred burial mounds. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC.
The city of Bath is about 115 miles from Central London. Bath is not particularly dominated by any one attraction though the Roman Baths are the single most popular attractions. The enormous castle which dominates Windsor dates back 900 years and remains an important royal residence to this day. It is known worldwide as the home of bespoke British tailoring. Savile Row is the place to come if you want a handmade suit crafted in old-fashioned way. On the corner of this "golden mile" of tailoring you will also find the flagship Abercrombie and Fitch store.
