Cameron Highland at a Glance

Cameron Highlands is one of the most extensive hill stations in Malaysia and is the smallest district in Pahang. It is located in the north-western corner of the state and is one of the most popular hill resorts in the country. It occupies an area of 712 square kilometres. Cameron Highlands is also the leading producer of flowers and tea in Malaysia. The unique forest at Cameron Highlands is a major attraction.

Road

The only way to get to Cameron Highlands is by road. The Simpang Pulai Road is the most popular road taken by most tourists coming from Kuala Lumpur. It takes around 45 minutes to reach this place from Kuala Lumpur.

Butterfly centre

Butterflies in the open air, is a rare sight these days. Get a chance to see many different species of butterflies which used to be a common sight in the highlands. Take a walk through an enclosed area where each species of butterfly are happily floating around the highlight. There are two butterfly farms in Cameron Highlands and both of these are located around the Kea Farm area.

Flower Nurseries

Cameron Highlands is the leading producer of fresh flowers in Malaysia. Most of the flower nurseries are centered around Bertam Valley. At the flower gardens and nurseries, be dazzled with the mix of colours and species being grown here. The common flowers grown here are roses, carnations, chrysanthemum, dalia, geranium, fuschia and gladioli. You can buy cheap flowers from these nurseries or any market around the highland.

Strawberry Farms

These farms can be found almost everywhere in Cameron Highlands. All are local grown strawberries and homemade strawberry jams are available at a very cheap price. There are also some popular strawberry farms in Cameron Highlands.

Honey Bee farm

There are three honey bee farms in the highlands where visitors can get to learn about bees and honey production. Honey, bee pollen and royal jelly, is collected and bottled to be sold as local produce in markets and specialty shops. Being the largest producer of flowers in South East Asia, it makes good sense to rear bees for the honey.

Tea Plantations

Cameron Highlands is incomplete without a trip to the tea plantations. This is one of the main attractions. The view overlooking the plantations is beautiful and perfect for the picture album. The Bharat tea estate is the most visited tea garden by tourists, as it is located just along the main road near Tanah Rata. This is one of the main attraction that’s got to be in your “must see” list.

Vegetable Farm

Vegetable farms are located throughout the highlands and most of the farms allow visitors in. While driving towards Tringkap or Kuala Terla, one can get a roadside view of the larger vegetable farms. These farms produce everything such as flowers, vegetables, strawberries etc.

Night Market

The Night Market is a popular shopping attraction among visitors that occurs every Friday and Saturday in Brinchang town, starting from early evening till late night. Native products of Cameron Highlands are sold abundantly, including strawberries, vegetables, fruits, tea blends, ornamental plants and colourful souvenirs.

Yung Seng Souvenir Shop

Yung Seng Souvenir Shop has an interesting collection of handcrafts and utensils of the Orang Asli, the indigenous inhabitants of Malaysia. They have huge variety of items based around anything to do with Cameron Highlands, everything from highlands tea to Asli Craft woodcarvings.

Antiqrust Sdn Bhd manufactures indoor decorative vases of various sizes and shapes. The art is created on copper foil and is embossed and framed, something which is entirely new and unique.
