Kota Kinabalu at a Glance

Kota KinaBalu is situated on the Tropical island of Borneo, and is the capital of the Malaysian state Sabha. This is one of the most fantastic city having long sandy beaches, paradise islands, virgin coral reefs and tropical rain forest. The location of the city from the airport is just a short ride. Kota Kinabalu is often known as KK both in Malaysia and internationally. There are many tourist attractions in and around the city.

Kota Kinabalu has the second busiest airport in Malaysia after Kuala Lumpur. The Airport is the central gateway into Sabah. Kota Kinabalu International Airport has flights coming in from Kuala Lumpur and international destinations such as Hongkong, Singapore, Tokyo, Manila, Bangkok, Taipei and Brunei. There are also domestic flights to and from other Sabha cities like Sandakan, Tawau and Lahad Datu.

The journey will take approximately 3 hours from Kota Kinabalu city, driving through scenic countryside, paddy fields, villages, oil palm plantation and local stalls selling handicraft items. After reaching, as you proceed towards the beach, enjoy the breath-taking views of the dramatic rocky outcrop and experience incomparable fascinating scenery. At the tip, you can see the South China Sea which meets the Sulu Seas flowing from the east.

Sea Walking

You can enjoy walking on the sea bed, under water and experience the beautiful Southern sea while admiring marine plants, corals, starfishes, and tropical fishes. It is a family sport which anyone from the age of 10 and above can try out. You don’t need to be a swimmer to do this activity. Sea walking allows you to walk under the sea and watch fishes go by without having to carry oxygen tanks or complicated equipment.

North Borneo Steam Railway

You can have a comfortable Steam engine ride through the beautiful countryside of Borneo. The engine is designed for wood burning, a costly yet more environmental form of steam. This track was set by the British during the 1900s and you will still feel the nostalgia while riding.

Mari Mari Cultural Village

The tour offers you the opportunity to see and experience the culture and lifestyle of indigenous ethnic groups of Borneo. The tribal people will showcase and give demonstration of how they used to hunt, make fire and cook in the old days. The village operates as a museum that preserves Borneo ethnic culture.

KK Plaza

KK Plaza shopping centre is a small complex located in the centre of Kota Kinabalu. The floors are crammed with cheap clothing outlets, a high number of mobile phone shops and a very good selection of Muslim bridal boutiques. The shops sell generic beauty products and accessories as well.

Wisma Merdeka

The shoppers’ paradise, Wisma Merdeka appeals more to female shoppers. 3 active floors of shops, restaurants, tailors and boutiques are sustained by steady flow of visitors. This shopping centre has the largest golf shop in Kota Kinabalu.
