It takes around 1.5 hours to reach Bentota from Colombo by train. The railway station is relatively small which is around 2 km away.
Travellers love the wide sandy beaches on the southern end of Bentota, with calm water making it perfect for diving and water sports activities for tourists. This hatchery has some variations of turtles to watch. It has a section where the eggs are buried and hatched. Visitors are provided information on why the hatchery exists and the process. The turtle hatchery buy the eggs of turtles, hatch them and after a few days of their birth, they are again left in the sea.
It is an ancient Buddhist temple at Bentota which is a âmust visit' place. The main temple building houses a number of brightly coloured statues and images. The sleeping Buddha is a long 25 ft statue that is placed on the floor in sleeping posture. This temple is believed to have been made in the 12th century.
