Rabdentse - Let's Peep in History

Apart from the natural beauty of Sikkim, its history is also very interesting, but for this a visit to the sites located in the depths of the state is required. Rabdentse is one small ancient city hidden in the beautiful valleys of Sikkim, where one can see many historical and ancient sites. Pages from the past indicate that Rabdentse, located in the district of West Sikkim, was the capital city of the Kingdom of Sikkim from 1670 to 1814. The capital was transferred from Yuksom to Rabdentse by Chadog Namgyal, son of the king of Sikkim. But later this capital city was destroyed by the Gorkha Army. At present, only the remains of the Rabdentse palace and other ancient structures can be seen here.

One can visit the ruins of ancient structures here.This historical site has been declared as of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India.

Pelling, Sangha Choiling Monastery, Kanchenjunga Falls and Pemayangtse Monastery are the nearby tourist spots of Rabdentse. Pemayangtse Monastery is one of the most prominent and oldest monasteries in Sikkim.
