    The culture of Armenia encompasses many elements that are based on the geography, literature, architecture, dance, and musicof the people. The Armenian dance heritage has been one of the oldest, richest and most varied in the Near East. One of the most energetic Armenian dances is the martial dance Yarkhushta. The National Art Gallery in Yerevan has more than 16,000 works that date back to the Middle Ages, which indicate Armenia's rich tales and stories of the times. One of the most important parts of Armenian culture is the music, which has brought new forms of music in recent years, while maintaining traditional styles too.

    Armenian cuisine belongs to the family of Caucasian cuisines, and has strong ties with Turkish cuisine, Georgian cuisine, Persian cuisine, and Levantine cuisine.
    A common dish of Armenian cuisine is pilaf. Pilaf is a seasoned rice dish and often served with meats such as lamb or beef. Variants today include noodles with the desired meat.

  • Harissa

    Harissa is a porridge made of wheat and meat cooked together for a long time, originally in the tonir but nowadays over a stove. Traditionally, harissa was prepared on feast days in communal pots and served to all comers. The wheat used in harissa is typically shelled (pelted) wheat, though in Adana, harissa is made with korkot; ground, par-boiled shelled wheat, similar to bulgur. Either lamb, beef, or chicken is used as the harissa meat.

    Khash, which started off as a laborer's meal, consists of beef or lamb feet that have been slow-cooked overnight in water. It is eaten at breakfast over crumbled dried lavash bread, with crushed garlic and liberal portions of vodka or spirits. Khash is typically eaten in winter.

  • Tolma Festival

    Tolma is considered one of the most delicious national dishes of Armenia. It is prepared from minced meat, which is wrapped in grape leaves and is served with the sauce made of the fermented product “matsun” and garlic. The annual festival of dolma in Armenia is a great opportunity to get acquainted with this delicious meat dish. The festival is held on May 16 in Armavir region, near the memorial complex “Sardarapat”. During it Armenian cooks prepare different types of tolma and compete for the main prize.

  • Carpet Festival

    Armenian carpets have an old history and are famous not only within their native land but also abroad. Carpet festival presents a great opportunity for masters to demonstrate their works and for clients to get acquainted with this amazing craft and even buy the most beautiful exemplars. The event takes place every year (every 2-nd Saturday of August) in a cozy and picturesque town Dilijan (100 km from Yerevan). In addition to the carpet exhibition, guests will also get acquainted with other works of applied art.
