The culture of Uzbekistan has a wide mix of ethnic groups and cultures, with the Uzbeks being the majority group. In 1995, about 71% of Uzbekistan's population was Uzbek. The chief minority groups were Russians (8.4%), Tajiks (officially 5%, but believed to be much higher), Kazaks (4.1%), Tatars (2.4%), and Karakalpaks (2.1%), and other minority groups include Armenians and Koryo-saram. It is said however that the number of non-indigenous people living in Uzbekistan is decreasing as Russians and other minority groups slowly leave and Uzbeks return from other parts of the former Soviet Union.
Uzbek cuisine is influenced by local agriculture, as in most nations. There is a great deal of grain farming in Uzbekistan, so breads and noodles are of importance, and Uzbek cuisine has been characterized as "noodle-rich". Mutton is a popular variety of meat due to the abundance of sheep in the country and it is a part of various Uzbek dishes.
Festivals in Uzbekistan are bright theatrical shows of historical events and national holidays. They demonstrate Uzbek culture and traditions, preserved from the past and carefully passed from generation to generation. During the festivals in Uzbekistan there are arranged lot of cheerful street festivities and bazaars, where you can buy interesting souvenirs made by local craftsmen. 26-28 May 2016 Bukhara will be hosting the XV traditional Silk and Spices Festival. Its goal is to preserve the existing cultural heritage with all its specific features and level of artistic skill, as well as support the arts and crafts, such as gold embroidery, hand weaving, wood carving, carpet weaving, construction skills, and fine arts.
The festival program includes performances of folklore bands from different regions of the country, national games and fun, master-classes, degustation of Uzbek plov at the event âPalovsayliâ, fashion show from young designers of Uzbekistan. Beautiful festive procession will create atmosphere of oriental fairy-tale that will take the guests of Bukhara to thousand years back, when caravans loaded with silk and spices went from China to Europe through the mountain passes and abandoned deserts, and would stop in blooming valleys.
Organizers of the event are Hakimiyat (Majorâs office) of the Bukhara region, Bukhara regional branch of Uzbektourism National Company and Khunarmand Artisansâ Association.
International Uzbek Tourism Fair is held the fourth year, still it has become one of the respected events in the sphere of tourism industry of the region.
