Qantas Link flies 3 times during weekdays and 2 times during weekends from Brisbane to Hervey Bay which takes 45 minutes to reach. You can then take a ferry which takes around 25 minutes to reach the island.
The Whale Watch Industry Association of Hervey Bay offers an extensive range of whale watching tours throughout the day. Hervey Bay is regarded as the best location to see the whales play. They stop and hang around giving whale watchers the best experience of any Queensland location.
Eli Creek lies on the eastern side of Fraser and is known as the largest freshwater creek in the island. It is a delightful little stream that carries crystal clear waters from a spring to the ocean beach. The water in the creek is absolutely pure and up to 80 million litres of water a day flow from this natural aquifer into the sea and houses unique and varied wildlife, from eels and frogs, kingfishers, to Australiaâs native wild dogs or dingoes. Swimming or floating down the swiftly flowing creek from the bridge at the far end of the boardwalk is an invigorating experience.
This stunning stretch of golden sand is a gazetted highway stretching for about 75 miles. It is extremely beautiful and has a number of excellent highlights such as Champagne Pools, Indian Head, the Maheno Wreck and Eli Creek. 75 Mile Beach is a great spot for ocean views, fishing and landing strip for light aircrafts.
S.S. Maheno was an Edwardian liner on the Tasman Sea crossing between New Zealand and Australia, and was used as a hospital ship by the New Zealand division of the Royal Navy during World War I. In 1935 the ship was caught in a strong cyclone and was beached on the eastern shores of Fraser Island. The Maheno is now heavily rusted, with bones tilting and the harsh saltwater slowly deteriorating the leftover. You can explore this amazing shipwreck which sits against the pristine sands of Cathedral Beach, a majestic and haunting site.
Lake McKenzie is a perched lake on Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia. The lake is located in the Great Sandy National Park. The lake is located 6.2 km southeast of Kingfisher Resort. It is 1,200 metres long and up to 930 metres wide.The sand here is pure, white silica and is not only beautiful to look at but feels beautifully soft to walk on. The sand acts as a filter, giving the water its clarity and helping to make the water so pure it can support very little life. The blues and greens of the lake are endlessly fascinating and it's well worth getting up early to look across it in the soft light of dawn.
The Champagne Pools are a collection of tranquil swimming holes among the rocks that foam with each wave that crashes along the rocks nearby. It is located just North of Indian Head, at the northern end of the famous 75-mile long eastern surf beach. These pools provide a very popular swimming hole with the ocean crashing over the rocks into shallow sandy bottom pools. The foaming water is where the name Champagne Pools comes from. Take a dip or relax and sun bath at these very popular, naturally formed volcanic rock recreational pools.
It is the most popular salt-water swimming destination on the Island. There are timber walking tracks and steps to enable easier access.There are extremely strong currents along this part of the island and swimming around the rocks is not encouraged. Caution should also be taken walking on the sharp rocks as well.
Indian Head is a coastal headland on the eastern (ocean) side of Fraser Island in Queensland, Australia. The landmark is the most easterly point on the island and a popular tourist destination.Indian Head is located at one end of Seventy Five Mile Beach.The headland was named by Captain Cook when he passed it on the evening of 19 May 1770, for the aboriginal people he saw assembled there.The term "Indian" was used at that time for the native people of many lands.The outcrop consists of rhyolite that was originally created by volcanic activity about 50 to 80 million years ago.Camping around the headland is not permitted. Climbing Indian Head provides 360° views as well as good wildlife spotting opportunities, Such as mantarays, sharks and whales.
