Lord Howe Island at a Glance

Lord Howe Island is a World Heritage-listed paradise located 660km off the north coast. The island’s famous twin peaks, breath-taking views and natural forest make it ideal for walkers and hikers to discover the island on foot. It is just 11km long and 2.8km at its widest point. Cycles and bikes are the best way to get around the island, most of which is protected as marine park and subtropical rainforest. Lord Howe is also one of Australia’s premier bird watching destinations. This zone provides the opportunity to view an amazing diversity of fish, marine life and coral close to shore.

Qantas Link offers year-round scheduled services to Lord Howe Island. Flight time is under two hours, with flights departing from Sydney on most days, and from Brisbane on weekends.

Neds Beach fish feeding

Neds Beach Sanctuary Zone allows visitors to view and experience hand feeding fish. You will instantly be surrounded by a feeding frenzy of mullet, wrasse, garfish, silver-drummer, spangled-emperor and King Fish once you step into the water for fish feeding.

Mount Gower experience

Standing tall at 875 metres, Mt. Gower is Lord Howe’s highest mountain. This 8hr trek is truly adventurous and walkers can experience a breath-taking 360 degree view of the island and its crystal blue waters once they reach the summit. On the way you can relish the rustling shade of the Kentia palm forests, unique to Lord Howe.

Snorkelling and Scuba Diving

Lord Howe boasts over 60 dive sites, ranging from off-the-beach dives over beautiful coral reef to Balls Pyramid – the world’s tallest sea stack. The coral reefs at Lord Howe island are the most southerly and among the most spectacular in the world. The island’s reef and marine ecosystems are pristine and plentiful. It’s also possible to see Ballina Angelfish – a deep water angel once you dive into the water. Snorkelling can also be done along the shores to enjoy the wide range of corals.

Glass bottom Boats

Glass Bottom Boats operate in Lord Howe Island's calm waters and offer a glimpse into its unique marine life. Each trip takes 2hrs and provides a close up look at hard and soft corals and the wide range of fishes.
