Rome is served by three airports. The intercontinental Leonnardo da Vinici international Airport is Italy's chief airport and is commonly known as "Fiumicino Airport", as it is located within the nearby Comune of Fiumicino, south-west of Rome. The older Rome Ciampino Airport is a joint civilian and military airport. It is commonly referred to as "Ciampino Airport", as it is located beside Ciampino, south-east of Rome. A third airport, the Roma-Urbe Airport, is a small, low-traffic Airport.

Colosseum

The Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre is located in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy. It is built of concrete and stone and is the largest amphi theatre in the world. The Colosseum is situated just east of the Roman Forum. It is one of the most imposing ancient structures. Imagine it all white, completely covered in splendid travertine stone slabs. The elliptic shape could hold more spectators. It had four floors - the first three had eighty arches each. The arches on the second and third floors were decorated with huge statues.

Pantheon in Rome

The Pantheon in Rome is the Roman monument with the greatest number of records. The building is circular with a portico of large granite Corinthian columns under a pediment. It is one of the best-preserved of all Ancient Roman buildings. After two thousand years it was built, the Pantheon's dome is still the world's largest unreinforced concrete dome.

Roman Forum

The Roman Forum is situated in the area between Piazza Venezia and the Colosseum and is one of the most important archaeological sites in the world. The Roman Forum was ancient Rome's showpiece centre, a grandiose district of marble-clad temples, proud basilicas and vibrant public spaces.

Baths of Caracalla

The baths provided two basic functions for the ancient Romans, most of the population of Rome lived in crowded tenements without running water or sanitary facilities and the baths provided much needed sanitisation facilities, and as a bonus a great opportunity to socialise and network at all levels. The Baths of Caracalla in Rome, were the second largest Roman public baths, built in Rome between AD 212 and 216, during the reign of the Emperor Caracalla.

Vatican Museum

Vatican City is a separate sovereign state within Rome, run by the Pope. The Vatican Museum is located within the city's boundaries. The Museum contains masterpieces of painting, sculpture and other works of art collected by the popes through the centuries. It includes several monumental works of art, such as the Sistine Chapel, the Chapel of Beato Angelico, the Raphael Rooms, Loggia and the Borgia Apartment.

The Sistine Chapel

The Sistine Chapel is a large and renowned chapel in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in the Vatican City. The chapel takes its name from Pope Sixtus IV. The 15th century decoration of the walls includes: the false drapes, the Stories of Moses and of Christ, and the portraits of the Popes.

Trevi Fountain

The Trevi Fountain is a fantastic work of art which is a fountain in the Trevi district in Rome, designed by Italian architect Nicola Salvi and completed by Pietro Bracci. The fountain is a true wonder, a jewel of water and stone that is nestled between the palaces of the historic centre of the city. It is the largest Baroque fountain in the city and one of the most famous fountains in the world. A traditional legend holds that if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured a return to Rome.

St. Peter's Basilica

Saint Peter's Basilica, the world's largest church, is the centre of Christianity. The imposing structure was built over a span of more than one hundred years by the greatest Italian architects of the era. The church is built on Vatican Hill, across the Tiber river from the historic centre of Rome. St. Peter's Basilica is a Late Renaissance church located within Vatican City and is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic sites.

Circus Maximus

The Circus Maximus is an ancient Roman chariot racing stadium and mass entertainment venue located in Rome, Italy. At one point the Circus could seat 2,50,000 people, one quarter of Rome's population. It was Rome's largest venue for ludi, public games connected to Roman religious festivals.
