Your tour of the Palazzo Comunale takes you through the various Council Chambers decorated with beautiful frescoes and artwork of the Florentine School. Access to the top is via a wide metal stairway with landings, rather than a circular stone stairwell. The final part of the tour is a visit to the palace courtyard, the walls of which are decorated with colorful medieval frescoes.
The area is best known for its delicious local dry, white wine. From the 13th century through to the present day, Vernaccia di San Gimignano has been praised and the wine producing region was elevated to DOCG status in 1993. Refreshingly crisp with a bitter finish, the wine is made from the native Vernaccia grape, which is grown in the sandstone-based soils near town. You can roam around and taste the different flavours of the world renowned wines.
