Chur at a Glance

Chur is the capital of the Swiss canton of Graubunden and lies in the northern part of the canton. It is Switzerlandâs oldest city and charms visitors with its fine mountain setting, twisting alleys and historic buildings. Chur is situated on the River Plessur, which flows into the Rhine. It is dominated by the picturesque Bishop's Court, an extensive group of buildings surrounding the Hofplatz. Numerous boutiques, restaurants, bars, museums and galleries in the largely traffic-free Old Town create a Mediterranean-style atmosphere. Chur is the ideal spot from where you can set off on walks and visit vineyards in the Bundner Herrschaft winemaking region. The city is also gateway to the Grisons mountains.

The city is well connected with regular trains from Zurich and Interlaken. Distance between Zurich and Chur is 118 km and it takes around one and half hours to reach Chur from Zurich.

The Glacier Express

The Glacier Express is a regular scheduled year-round train service between Zermatt and St Moritz. The Glacier Express is run jointly by two private Swiss railways, the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn and the Rhatische Bahn, who also operate the regular local trains and freight trains over the same route. It is a day trip through untouched mountain landscapes, glamorous health resorts, deep gorges, delightful valleys, 91 tunnels and across 291 impressive bridges.
