The best way to get to Interlaken is by train and there are frequent trains from Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Berne and Lucerne. There are two train stations â Interlaken East and Interlaken West. Intelaken West is the closest train to the centre of Interlaken and it is possible to walk to most hotels or they will only be a short taxi or bus ride away.
This is worldâs only glacier waterfalls, located near the Lauterbrunnen Valley. It is Europe's largest subterranean waterfalls and is often called the valley of 72 waterfalls. The water carries with it over 20,000 tons of boulders per year and causes the entire mountain to shudder and make a thundering noise.
Lake Brienz is a lake just north of the Alps, in the Canton of Berne in Switzerland. A boat ride on this typical alpine lake with its steep sides is a truly impressive experience. The oldest steam rack railway in Switzerland, the Brienz-Rothorn Railway, takes you up to the Brienzer Rothorn from Brienz. From the top, there is a lovely panoramic view of the lakes and mountain chain.
You can enjoy an outing on a motor-powered vessel or on an elegant, restored paddle-wheel steamboat. Lake Thun is surrounded by fabulous mountain scenery and by the charming towns of Thun and Interlaken. Mediterranean flair on Lake Thun is a must watch when you are at Interlaken.
Lake Brienz is situated east of Interlaken, and it's a bit smaller than Lake Thun. The boat trip from Interlaken to Brienz takes about 75 minutes. There are other towns along the way where you can board as well. The turquoise Lake Brienz is situated in the spectacular mountain setting of the Bernese Oberland.
This is a 1,322 metres high summit in the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland, overlooking the town of Interlaken. It also offers a beautiful view of the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains as well as Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The short journey from Interlaken to the Harder Kulm, takes only ten minutes by cable car and is well worth the trip.
Jungfrau is the westernmost and highest point of a gigantic 10 km wall dominating the valleys of Lauter brunnen and Grindelwald. One can take a unique, modern cogwheel railway to Kleine Scheidegg, 6762 feet up. From there, the Jungfrau railway climbs to the Eiger Glacier station, well known for its mountain restaurant and polar dog kennels.

The Giessbach Falls are situated on the southern shore of Lake Brienz. You can take the train to Brienz and catch a ferry to Giessbach. There is a bridge crossing the falls, where you can take good pictures and can enjoy the splendid views of the waterfall as it froths and roars its way down to join the tranquil waters of the lake.
At the Ballenberg Open Air Museum you can find 100 original, century-old buildings from all over Switzerland. The historic buildings and their kitchens, chambers and living rooms illustrate rural life in Switzerland. Magnificent farmhouses, alpine huts, stalls, barns, store-houses, wash-houses and drying ovens provide architectural as well as socio-historical testimony to the everyday life and rural culture of the past.
It is the oldest steam railway in Switzerland. The journey from Brienz takes around one hour, through a landscape of pastures, meadows and forests. The first flyer is a 800 metres of steel cable which promises pure thrills. You can sit in a securely designed harness for the rapid descent from First to Schreckfeld which is stopped by a spring device.
The Aare gorge is situated in the Haslital valley in the Central Alps, which stretches from the Grimsel Pass to Lake Brienz. The gorge is a wonderful way to experience nature with many paths and tunnels to walk through. Hiking through the Aare Gorge from either the west or east entrance takes approximately 40 minutes.
This breath-taking ride takes you up to the picturesque Gelmer lake, where you could hike around the lake, or just relax and enjoy the magnificent views. This ride is appropriate for adventure-seeking hikers and transports them up in no time up to 1860 m. above sea level. A monstrous climb of maximum 106 percent undisputably makes this funicular railway the steepest in Europe.
It is a small summit above Mürren. Since 1912, there is a small funicular which brings the skiers or hikers to the top. The Allmendhubel funicular takes you above Mürren to a panoramic restaurant and the Skyline Chill relaxation area where funky wave-shaped loungers grant surround-mountain views.
The Golden Pass is a train route that starts in Lucerne. Along the way to Montreux you will see the Brunig Pass, the lakes of the Bernese Oberland, the Simmen valley, upper class Gstaad and Lake Geneva.
