Two airports, Kayseri Airport and Nevsehir Airport serve central Cappadocia. Both have several flights daily to and from Istanbul. The main operators are Turkish Airlines and Pegasus Airlines.
Kaymakli underground city is built under the hill known as the Citadel of Kaymakli and was opened to visitors in 1964. The people of Kaymakli village have constructed their houses around nearly one hundred tunnels of the underground city. The inhabitants of the region still use the most convenient places in the tunnels as cellars, storage areas and stables, which they access through their courtyards.
It is the miraculous and amazing small cave city that is located at Cappadociaâs famous Goreme Valley. This small cave city was built by early Christians in 11th century to protect their faith and life style within this mystic place. As being notable for historic cave churches, the museum has a very deep and rich history. The Goreme Valley holds the region's best collection of painted cave-churches.
Pigeon Valley, just outside Goreme in Cappadocia, is one of Turkeyâs most beautiful landscapes. The unique rock formations known as fairy chimneys, or peri bacalar, which are made from wind and water erosion on soft volcanic rock, rise high from the valley floor like chimneys and are dotted in their tops with birdhouses. Pigeons live in these dovecoats carved into the rocks and cliffs.
Uchisar is situated at the highest point in Cappadocia. Many rooms hollowed out into the rock are connected to each other with stairs, tunnels and passages. At the entrances of the rooms, there are millstone doors, just like the ones in the underground settlements, used to control access to these places. This magnificent castle presents the visitors a dreamy panorama area with its miraculous landscape.
The name was derived from some cones carved in tuff stones which stand apart. Currently, there is a vineyard and a number of tuff cones standing right next to the road. Pasabag valley contains some of the most striking fairy chimneys in Cappadocia with twin and even triples rock caps.
