The name 'Keswick' is said to mean 'cheese farm' and is first recorded as a settlement in 1240. Its origins as a market town date back to 1276. It has been voted the 9th UK destination in the 7th annual Travellers’ Choice awards for Destinations. Keswick is truly the Heart of the Lake District and Derwentwater, the most picturesque of all the lakes. With all its surrounding mountains there is no better sight to be seen. Keswick is very easily accessible by car. You can head through the beautiful Southern lakes via Kendal, Windermere, Ambleside and Grasmere. This route meanders through these lovely Lakeland towns and villages, past Lake Windermere, Rydal, Grasmere and Thirlmere before you drop down the spectacular hill into Keswick town.

Derwentwater Lake

Derwentwater is one of the principal bodies of water in the Lake District National Park in north west England. The lake occupies part of Borrowdale and lies immediately south of the town of Keswick. Calm beautiful waters surrounded by breath-taking scenery can be enjoyed here. The lake is accessible by a short walk from the town with lawns running down to the water and boat trips available.

It is also among the earliest British circles, raised in about 3000 BC during the Neolithic period. The scenery around and behind the circle is absolutely breath-taking. Every year thousands of people visit it to look, photograph, draw and wonder why and when and by whom it was built.
