Liverpool (England) at a Glance

Liverpool is a city on the eastern side of the Mersey Estuary. Its urbanisation and expansion were largely brought about by its status as a major port, which included its participation in the Atlantic slave trade. Liverpool is one of Europe's most popular city break destinations and is famous as the birthplace of the Beatles with numerous theatres, museums and art galleries and is one of the world’s largest ports and the Albert Dock with its busy nightlife. There are two horse racing courses at Aintree and Haydock, 40 golf courses and Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs. Liverpool was the port of registry of the ocean liner RMS Titanic, and many other Cunard and White Star ocean liners such as the RMS Lusitania, Queen Mary, and Olympic. The city is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is known worldwide as the birthplace of The Beatles. Livrepool is also the home of two Premier League football clubs, Liverpool and Everton. Tourism forms a significant part of the city's modern economy.
