Loch Lomond (Scotland) at a Glance

Loch Lomond is a freshwater Scottish lake which crosses the Highland Boundary Fault. It is the largest inland stretch of water in Great Britain by surface area. The loch contains many islands and is a popular leisure destination. The Loch Lomond and Trossachs area of Scotland was awarded National Park status in July 2002. You can ramble up hills, wander ancient woodlands and explore the rugged shoreline. Loch Lomond and The Trossachs have attracted visitors since tourism began in Scotland, at the dawning of the Romantic age more than two centuries ago. There are endless discoveries to be made. In spite of its popularity, only a very small effort is needed to see the wild landscapes at the heart of the National Park.

Loch Lomond is 23 miles long and up to 4 miles wide. This large expanse of water is interspersed with picturesque and mysterious islands, which boast a wealth of history and the surrounding scenery provides magnificent views in every direction. Around 30 islands dot the lake. Take a drive around the leafy western shore, and notice how the northern stretches of Loch Lomond morph from lowland to more stark highland landscapes, overlooked by the lofty 974 m heights of Ben Lomond. The luxury speedboat tour is undoubtedly the most memorable and exciting way to experience Loch Lomond. Cruise slowly throughout the many islands or travel much faster in open waters.
