Lake Wakatipu

Lake Wakatipu is the third largest lake in New Zealand. The lake occupies a single, glacier-carved trench and is bordered on all sides by tall mountains, the highest of which is Mount Earnslaw .The lake is relatively thin, but the mountains run straight into the lake, forming a deep canyon which is 399m at its deepest point. This inverted "n" shaped lake is a highlight of a trip to Queenstown, which nestles against a curve near the middle of the lake.
