Best Time To Visit The small, landlocked country of Laos is best visited between October and April, when the weather's warm and dry throughout. River travel is best between November and January, when high water levels make passage easy along Laos' main waterway, the Mekong River.
Vang Vieng is on Highway #13 between Vientiane and Luang Prabang - by bus (road and bus conditions permitting) about 6-8 hrs from Luang Prabang, around 3-4 hr from Vientiane.
Highway #13 is a two-lane road in fairly good condition except for a few bumps closer to the cities, nothing to worry about. The road between Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang is mountainous and boasts amazing scenery as well as worthwhile glimpses of Lao village life. The road between Vang Vieng and Vientiane is flatter and less interesting.
It's a beautiful underwater caves that need a big rope to get inside. It's really a challenge, especially during rainy season when the water level is high with strong flow. But once you got inside, it's really rewarding.
It is a beautiful Buddhist temple located in the city centre.
A scenic ride across an unpaved road through the Vang Vieng countryside, through small villages and along rice paddies leads to the blue lagoon and the Tham Phu Kham cave.
Vang Vieng is not the best shopping destination in the country but visitors may find a few places that sell more than postcards to send home. The local market located north of town sells everyday goods such as fresh food and kitchenware but alongside youâll find beautiful Lao textiles including many different types of traditional phaa sin (sarongs), ropes and hand-woven shirts.
