Phra Singh or âLion Buddhaâ is Chiang Maiâs most revered Buddha image and that gives all the fame to the temple Wat Phra Singh. Despite Phra Singh being famous, very little is actually known about the image. It is considered one of the most beautiful examples of Lanna religious art.
It is a Buddhist temple in the historic centre of Chiang Mai. A lot of people visit this temple because they believe that paying respect and asking for a blessing at Phra That Doi Suthep will bring them success and fulfilment, as well as protection and guidance from all obstacles in life.
Wat Chedi luang is one of the most important temples of Chiang Mai. It is located in the ancient walled part of the city. It is also known as Temple of great Stupa, consisting of two mere temples namely Wat Ho Tham and Wat Sukmin.
The Chiang Mai Zoo was established by the The Zoological Park Organization, Thailand in 1974. Situated on 212 acres of verdant forest land at the foothill of Doi Suthep mountain, the zoo is surrounded by hilly terrain which is home to thousands of species of wild plants and flowers.
Chaing Mai Night Safari stands on over 300 acres, just 10 km from the centre of Chiang Mai. This zone has over 400 animals of 50 species including white tigers, jaguars, hippopotamuses, orang-utans, black tigers, etc.
Elephant Nature Park is an elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre where one can volunteer and visit to help. This project set in Chiang Mai Province - Northern Thailand, has been in operation since the 1990's. The park provides a natural environment for elephants, dogs, cats, buffaloes and many other animals. You can enjoy the honour of observing their freedom and happiness as they walk, they scratch, they swim, they eat, they dust bathe - all at their own pace.
If it's your first time in Thailand, a night bazaar is a necessary check point. Apart from the crowded walk ways and repetitive products there are some good bargains you can try, so it's worth going at least once.
The sunday market or the walking street is a large market place located in the centre of Chaing Mai. The Sunday market extends for about 1 km down the full length of Ratchadamnoen Road, starting at The Phae Gate. The market starts from 4 pm till mid night every Sunday.
The Saturday market or Wuilai market is located to the south west of the city opposite to Chiang Mai gate. It extends for 1 km down the Wui Lai Road. It opens every Saturday from 4 pm till midnight.
