Phuket at a Glance

Phuket is Thailand’s largest Island which is 48 kms in length, 21 kms in width. It lies in southern Thailand on the west facing Andaman Sea coastline. Overlooking the Andaman Sea, Phuket is known for its fabulous beaches, blue seas and forested hills. In fact, the province of Phuket is Thailand’s wealthiest province and most of the wealth comes from tourism. The capital of Phuket is Muang Phuket (Phuket Town), which lies 42 km south of the Sarasin Bridge (the link to Thai mainland). The island, apart from the town, is sparsely populated but this only makes it a great place to spend a relaxing holiday- all you need to do is swim, snorkel, soak up the sun, and enjoy yourself.

Wat Chalong

Out of the 29 Buddhist temples in Phuket, this is one of the most important one. It is dedicated to Luang Pho Chaem and Luang Pho Chuang, the two monks who led the citizens of chalong to fight against the Chinese rebellion in 1876 with their knowledge in herbal medicines. This temple is visited by a lot of tourists.

Big Buddha

This huge image of Buddha sits on top of the Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata and at 45 metres height. Entry to the Big Buddha is free but donations are very much appreciated. At the end of the hall there are monks who can accept offerings for merit making while providing blessings.

Siam Niramit Show

James Bond Island

Coral Island

Coral Island, known locally as Koh Hae, is a spectacular destination located three kilometres southeast of Phuket. The island has two main beaches, Long Beach and Banana Beach. The island possesses some coral reefs, off its coastline with some good diving and snorkelling spots.

Phuket Butterfly Garden

Located on the west side of Phuket Town, Phuket Butterfly Garden gives you a chance to walk among a large quantity of tropical butterflies. This garden has been in operation since 1990. It covers approximately 1 acre of habitat for 6,000 - 9,000 butterflies. One can not only see butterflies, but variety of insects including Iguana, moving Leaf insects, scorpions, beetles, walking Stick insects and many more.

Elephant Trekking Safari

Elephant Trekking Safari in set on a beautiful ocean viewpoint where the dense tropical jungle overlooks Kata Noi Bay. White Water Rafting

Although there are no large rivers in Phuket, nearby Phang Nga province is a good place to enjoy rafting. Phang Nga province is about 80 Kms from Phuket and rafting is done on the main Phang nga river. White Water Rafting in Phang Nga is available year round but is especially good during the months from June to November because of the higher amount of rain.

Splash Jungle Water Park

This water park is located at Mai Khao Beach and operates everyday between 10am to 6 pm. This is the first water park in Phuket. The rides include Super Bowl, Boomerang, Aqua Play Pool, Wave Pool, Lazy River and so on. There are places like Igloo Sauna, hot spring pool, and slide pool for kids. What can be a better way to have a day of adventure at the edge of Phuket’s jungle overlooking the beauty of Mai Khao Beach. It’s the perfect scene to get wet!

Racha Island

Located about 20kms south of Phuket, the Racha Island comprises of two islands, Koh Racha Yai and Koh Racha Noi. Yai means “big” in Thai and noi means “little”.
