Galle is served by Sri Lanka railwayâs coastal line and is connected by rail to Colombo and Matara. Travelling time is around 3 hours. Galle Railway Station is a major station on the line, and serves as the meeting point of the west-coast and south-coast segments of the line.
The A2 highway, which is commonly known as the Galle Road runs through the city and connects Galle to Colombo by the west-coast portion and Hambanthota by the south-coast portion.
This fortified city, built by the Dutch is the best-preserved sea fort in South Asia. Itâs a living heritage site. This 90 hectare attraction is a superb blend of architecture, with fortifications that resemble those in the coastal areas of Portugal.
