The gateway to Yala National Park is Tissamaharama. A 20 km drive via Kirinda takes the visitors to the Palatupana. At Palatupana, the well-designed visitor centre provides jeeps with softâtops which afford better opportunities in viewing wild life.
Majestic Sri Lankan elephants and leopards are the main attractions of this park. Jeeps are usually available to go for safaris. The park consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public. A wide range of bears, leopards, and birds as well as other animals are found here. Leopard density of this park is higher than anywhere else on this planet. You are also likely to see sloth bears, deer, wild boar, buffaloes, crocodiles and monkeys. The area under forest cover has a variety of ecosystems including moist monsoon forests, dry monsoon forests, semi deciduous forests, thorn forests, grasslands, fresh water and marine wetlands.
There are no shops at Yala National Park.
