Cairns at a Glance

Cairns is a regional city in the far north of Queensland, Australia. It has the World Heritage wonders of the Great Barrier Reef and the Dain tree Rainforest. Great Barrier Reef

Australia's most remarkable natural gifts, the Great Barrier Reef is blessed with the breath-taking beauty of the world's largest coral reef. The reef contains an abundance of marine life and comprises of over 3,000 individual reef systems and coral cays and literally hundreds of picturesque tropical islands with some of the world’s most beautiful sun-soaked, golden beaches. This reef structure is composed of and built by billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. It supports a wide diversity of life and was selected as a World Heritage Site in 1981. Tropical North Queensland is the closest destination to the Great Barrier Reef. A visitor to the Great Barrier Reef can enjoy many experiences including snorkelling, scuba diving, helicopter tours, bare boats, glass-bottomed boat viewing, semi-submersibles, cruise ship tours, whale watching and swimming with dolphins.

Kuranda Rainforest

Kuranda is well known as the village in the rainforest and has been attracting visitors for over a century. Initially people came to admire the mighty Barron Falls, while artisans were attracted to the region's natural beauty creating a vibrant arts and craft culture. Lush tree ferns line the roadside on the way into the village and numerous walking tracks and trails take you into the green surrounds, offering running streams, wide rivers and views over waterfalls and gorges. You can see koalas and take the opportunity to cuddle a koala in Koala centre, a boutique wildlife attraction situated in Kuranda Heritage Markets.

Daintree Forest

The Daintree Rainforest is a tropical rainforest region on the north east coast of Queensland, Australia, north of Mossman and Cairns. It is the largest area of tropical rainforest on the Australian continent and is one of the most diverse and beautiful examples of Mother Nature’s work in the world. This ecologically unique rainforest is home to the most extensive range of rare plants and animals on earth, and all are found within an area of approximately 1200 square kilometres. The Daintree Cape Tribulation rainforest is a World Heritage site.

Barron Falls

Barron Falls is a massive cascading waterfall along the Barron River just outside the city of Cairns. It consists of four main parts, the largest of which is a 400 foot wide, 900 foot long cascade dropping about 350 feet. The falls are usually claimed to stand 853 feet tall from top to bottom but it flows with force only during the wet season.
