The Po Lin Monastery is one of Hong Kongâs most important Buddhist shrines and has been tagged âThe Buddhist World in the Southâ. Home to many a pious monk, this monastery is rich with colourful display of Buddhist iconography. The monastery was founded in 1906 by three monks visiting from Jiangsu Province on the Chinese mainland and was initially known simply as "The Big Hut". The main temple houses three bronze statues of the Buddha â representing his past, present and future lives.
Ten Thousand Buddhaâs Monastery is a Buddhist temple in Sha Tin, Hong Kong. It is located at 220 Pai Tau Village, Sha Tin. As there are no resident monks and is managed by laypersons, it is not an actual monastery. It was built by Yuet Kai, a devout Buddhist layman who dedicated the last years of his life to constructing an elaborate temple containing nearly 13,000 statues of Buddha. The main journey up to the monastery is an attraction itself, as the path is lined on both sides with golden Buddhaâs, each with unique and different poses.
The clock tower is located near Victoria Harbour at the foot of Salisbury Road. Standing 44-metres tall and topped by a 7-metre lightning rod, the old Clock Tower was erected in 1915 as part of the KowloonâCanton Railway terminus. The once-bustling station is long gone, but this red brick and granite tower is still standing tall.
