Wangdue Eco Lodge is a pioneering eco-tourism project in Bhutan, launched in March 2015. Situated at an altitude of 1459m in Dhamina village, the lodge overlooks the beautiful Ngashigaykha village, a confluence and the majestic Wangduephodrang Dzong. On a clear morning, one can see perennially snow-capped Gangchen Tag (6784m) behind the Dzong.
The lodge is built on the concept of Green Architecture. Its rainwater harvesting, solar heating, biogas and waste recycling plants contribute meaningfully in reducing carbon emission.
Wangdue Eco Lodge has 11 permanent staff members; six are family members while five, including the Chef, are hired help. The promoter Ugyen Wangchuk manages the Lodge. Staff members are encouraged to serve more as hosts than as paid workers. As a mainly family-run enterprise, this comes with minimal effort.
